Local Restaurant Honors Firefighter History

MONTEREY, CA — The city’s first organized firefighting force formed in 1884 to protect Old Monterey, and the equipment consisted of buckets, axes and a two-wheel hose cart pulled by hand. Things improved dramatically from there, with Monterey building a grand brick firehouse in 1910 on the city’s main street, called Calle Principal. Originally home to horse-drawn fire wagons, the building is a significant part of Monterey’s historic past. As the building’s modern-day occupant, Montrio Bistro will honor that history with a special celebration on Monday, July 8.

Monterey Hotel Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary

It seems like just yesterday construction was underway on Cannery Row to bring in a new, fashionable hotel to the struggling tourism hotbed along the beautiful Monterey Bay, but it's been five years since the InterContinental The Clement Monterey opened its doors to the public.

The hotel isn't slowing down either.

Its C-side patio has introduced several enhancements and décor changes that make the delightful waterfront experience even more engaging.  An attractive glass addition surrounds a portion of the space, allowing unobstructed ocean views but providing  protection from gentle bay breezes. Stylish heaters add warmth and visual interest, and the new soft seating area provides a welcoming and comfortable environment to linger over small plates and a variety of beverages.

A Food Paradise Is Just A Hop, Skip & A Jump Away

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif.- While Pacific Grove offers some of the best cuisine on the Monterey Peninsula, the Pebble Beach Food and Wine Festival is worth checking out as it's just minutes away and offers an escape into a food lover's paradise.

It may be hard to pronounce some of the ingredients or even recognize some of the dishes, but open your mind and mouth for an experience you won't forget. The creators and founders David Bernahl and Robert Weakley are two of the most charismatic and charming gentlemen you'll ever meet. They love food and wine, which is evident in their successful restaurants like 1833 and Cannery Row Brewing Co. on the Monterey Peninsula.

Tax Season Never Tasted So Good

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif.- Fandango Restaurant, located in the heart of Pacific Grove, will be celebrating Tax Day, Monday, April 15th with featured cocktails.

People can enjoy the "Rummy Refund" or the "Uncle Sam" concotions. Tax time can be tough to swallow, but there's nothing harsh about this mix of aged rum, Fernet-Branca and fresh citrus. The latter is a soothing mix of Cognac, rum and Curaçao take the edge off the big day.

Then there's the "Income Tax Cocktail." Don't be turned off by the name. This citrus-sweetened mix of gin and vermouth goes down easy any time of year.

All three cocktails will be $5.00 each throughout the day. They're easier to go down than that tax bill.

Casual American Restaurant Takes Over Nightclub

MONTEREY, Calif. -- A casual American restaurant is expected to take over what used to be Luxe Lounge in Monterey.

"Turn 12" will replace the building once occupied last year by the bar and lounge on East Franklin.

The city said Luxe Lounge gave them lots of issues. Police dealt with everything from fights to underage drinking.

Now that a restaurant is expected to open, it hopes to move forward in a positive direction.
