Pets Rescued From Suspected Hoarder's Home Available For Adoption

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. - Some of the pets that were rescued from the Monterey home of a suspected animal hoarder are now available for adoption.

Monterey Police say they, along with SPCA for Monterey County Humane Officers, rescued 22 cats, 24 dogs and 7 young puppies from the home of 59-year-old Ilagene "Jeanie" Quaglia.

The SPCA says its officers also located the remains of two cats and one small dog, and adds that the house was covered in three feet deep of garbage, urine, and feces.

Quaglia was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and was booked into the Monterey County Jail.

The SPCA is currently contacting people who have expressed interest in adopting one of the rescued pets. All adopters will need to agree to take the pet to the SPCA upon request if they need to be re-examined for any reason during the course of the animal cruelty investigation.

Canary up for adoption at the Salinas Animal Shelter

By Claudia Otero

This beautiful canary was dropped off Tuesday night at the Salinas Animal Shelter kennels with a note saying that it was found in a front yard.

The folks at the shelter think it’s a female.  Her ID number is A072601.  If you are interested in adopting her please contact the Salinas Animal Shelter at (831) 758-7285.

Salinas Animal Shelter asking people to adopt cats or dogs, to make room for other rescues

Salinas, Calif.-Today we found out folks at the SPCA for Monterey County took over 5 adult cats and 1dog from the Salinas Animal Shelter. As Central Coast News told you on Thursday the shelter was at full capacity and needed to have at least 12 dogs and 3 cats adopted ASAP. Otherwise, the shelter was going to have to humanely euthanize some cats and dogs.

Well, even though they have had a little help from the SPCA and other non-profits have reached out to help, many animals still need a home! So, if you are looking to expand your family with a furry friend please consider adopting from the Salinas Animal Shelter. These animals really need a good home!

Salinas Animal Shelter: 831.758.7446 they are located at 144 Hitchcock Rd in Salinas.  They are open Tuesday- Saturday from 12pm to 5pm.
