New Program In Monterey County Offers Education Instead Of Prosecution

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. - The Monterey County District Attorney's Office is implementing a new educational program for people accused of committing certain low level misdemeanor offenses instead of having them be prosecuted in court.

The Pre-filing Misdemeanor Diversion Program, which is being provided by Corrective Solutions, will go into effect April 1. Eligible defendants will pay a fee, and after successfully completing the program will not face a criminal conviction.

Former Pot Dispensary Loses in Appeals Court

MONTEREY - The owner of MyCaregiver, a medical marijuana dispensary in Monterey, has lost an appeal for the right to run a dispensary, the city of Monterey announced Thursday. The city alleged that the marijuana dispensary operated in violation of the city's zoning regulations.

The court found that the use of commercially zoned property for a medical marijuana dispensary was not permissible under the city's zoning ordinance, and therefore constituted a public nuisance in Monterey, according to the news release.

MyCaregiver closed in 2010. In March of that year, police showed up to carry out a court-ordered injunction and to make sure the shop was closed.

New Children's Pool Closer To Reality

New information on a contract that would give the city the green light to build a children's pool at Lover's Point in Pacific Grove.

The contract is now official, after it was approved last week by the city council. The project is slated to cost about $200,000. The pool is expected to add to the already popular area used for picnicking, fishing, swimming, water sports, and surfing.

Last year, the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District (MPRPD) gave the "Save the Pool" campaign $40,000 in a matching grant.

A Food Paradise Is Just A Hop, Skip & A Jump Away

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif.- While Pacific Grove offers some of the best cuisine on the Monterey Peninsula, the Pebble Beach Food and Wine Festival is worth checking out as it's just minutes away and offers an escape into a food lover's paradise.

It may be hard to pronounce some of the ingredients or even recognize some of the dishes, but open your mind and mouth for an experience you won't forget. The creators and founders David Bernahl and Robert Weakley are two of the most charismatic and charming gentlemen you'll ever meet. They love food and wine, which is evident in their successful restaurants like 1833 and Cannery Row Brewing Co. on the Monterey Peninsula.
