MEALS ON WHEELS OF THE MONTEREY PENINSULA NAMES THEIR “WOMAN OF THE YEAR”

Daryl Griffith of Pebble Beach Company to be honored at luncheon on Sunday, May 6th

Pacific Grove, CA – April 10, 2012 – Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula (MOWMP) is pleased to announce the Pebble Beach Company Catering Director at the Lodge at Pebble Beach has been named their Woman of the Year as part of their “Women Who Care, and the Men Who Love Them” Campaign for 2012.

For the past 10 years, Daryl has lent her expertise and flair for design to the Culinary Classique d’ Elegance, the signature fundraising event for MOWMP. “I love this event and believe in it wholeheartedly.” Said Griffith. “Meals on Wheels is so important, says Griffith. It nourishes the hearts and souls of seniors by providing healthy nutritious food. It speaks to my love of food and humanity.”

Griffith will be honored at the “Women Who Care, and the Men Who Love Them” (WWC) kick-off luncheon will be held on Sunday, May 6th at the Monterey Marriott. The Women Who Care Campaign is a network of philanthropic women and men whose fundraising efforts help to underwrite the programs and services provided by Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula for seniors and their caregivers across the Monterey Peninsula. In 2012, the WWC will support Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula’s “Save our Breakfast” program to ensure that every homebound adult receives a healthy start to their day.

Due to significant budget cuts from local government sources, MOWMP has to raise an additional $80,000 to cover the cost of the breakfasts that are delivered to home-bound clients. MOWMP delivers meals to homebound clients 5-days a week with the help of volunteer drivers. Each delivery includes a hot-lunch, a light supper and breakfast.

The Women Who Care and the Men Who Love Them campaign was started 5-years ago as the brainchild of MOWMP volunteers Grace Ashby and Rene Fuqua. To date five women have been honored: Wendy Brodie, Mary Ann Pirotte, Jackie Craghead, Grace Ashby and this year’s honoree Daryl Griffith.

Founded in 1972, Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. In addition to delivering meals to the frail and elderly, MOWMP serves congregate meals to seniors at four locations on the Monterey Peninsula and provides activities and programs for seniors at the Sally Griffin Active Living Center in Pacific Grove.
