PACIFIC GROVE, Calif.- This week, families will take the first, cool plunge into a pool at Lovers Point that will signify more than just the beginning of summer, but a long-fought battle to raise enough money to keep it open.

The Lovers Point Children’s Pool Fundraising Committee, in partnership with the City of Pacific Grove, announced the completion of the Lovers Point Children’s Pool and will hold the grand opening on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 11am. Local Restaurant Honors Firefighter History

MONTEREY, CA — The city’s first organized firefighting force formed in 1884 to protect Old Monterey, and the equipment consisted of buckets, axes and a two-wheel hose cart pulled by hand. Things improved dramatically from there, with Monterey building a grand brick firehouse in 1910 on the city’s main street, called Calle Principal. Originally home to horse-drawn fire wagons, the building is a significant part of Monterey’s historic past. As the building’s modern-day occupant, Montrio Bistro will honor that history with a special celebration on Monday, July 8.

Local Woman of The Year Named

Local Woman of The Year Named

Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula (MOWMP) named Dorothy Maras-Ildiz, a long-time supporter and volunteer as their Woman of the Year.

Ms. Maras-Ildiz will be honored at the 6th annual Women Who Care (and the men who love them) luncheon on Sunday, June 2nd at the Monterey Marriott.

Maras-Ildiz has a long history of volunteerism and a celebrated career in hospitality. Dorothy owned her first restaurant in Sacramento at the age of 19. Working in the downtown area she came across many homeless and hungry people and never hesitated to feed whoever came to the back door looking for something to eat.

“Witnessing the volume of food that went into the garbage cans, it didn’t make sense to me, not to feed those in need.” said Maras in a news release last week.

Currently Dorothy serves as the culinary liaison Coastal Luxury Management which produces The Pebble Beach Food & Wine event and the Los Angeles Food & Wine event.

Monterey Hotel Celebrates 5 Year Anniversary

It seems like just yesterday construction was underway on Cannery Row to bring in a new, fashionable hotel to the struggling tourism hotbed along the beautiful Monterey Bay, but it's been five years since the InterContinental The Clement Monterey opened its doors to the public.

The hotel isn't slowing down either.

Its C-side patio has introduced several enhancements and décor changes that make the delightful waterfront experience even more engaging.  An attractive glass addition surrounds a portion of the space, allowing unobstructed ocean views but providing  protection from gentle bay breezes. Stylish heaters add warmth and visual interest, and the new soft seating area provides a welcoming and comfortable environment to linger over small plates and a variety of beverages.

Celebrate Tourism Week In Monterey

Like most local coastal cities, Pacific Grove relies on tourism.

This week, the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau wants to recognize not only the vital component to the local economy, but the people who help attract the crowds to the beautiful Central Coast.

Monterey will help celebrate National Tourism Week with the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau May 6-10.

A "Tourism Matters" reception will be on Tuesday, May 7, 5pm to 7pm at the El Estero Visitor Center with an outside pavilion sponsored by the Eco-Infinity Group, located at 401 Camino El Estero in Monterey.

The Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association will pour local wines with accompanied appetizers. Do not forget to bring your business card for chances to win epic prizes!
