Toy Drive For Thousands of Local Kids

Toy Drive For Thousands of Local Kids

On Saturday, December 1st, The New Masters Gallery and the United States Marine Corp., along with Toys for Tots, will launch the 26th Annual Toy Drive from the Gallery located on Dolores between Ocean and 7th in Carmel.

The drive will last from 4-7 PM. There will be food from local restaurants, wine, refreshments and entertainment, including a magic show. It's the longest running toy drive in Monterey County and the drive has raised over $65,000 in toys over the last 5 years and has helped over 20,000 children in need. This year's donations are down.  You can bring your toys to the Gallery. The toys will be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monterey County, the YWCA, the Salvation Army and Kinship Center.

Ring in the New Year in Monterey

We know it's not yet December, but it's not too early to start planning for your New Year's Eve Celebrations.

First Night Monterey is already selling its 2013 admission buttons. The event is nine hours of art, music and family fun along Alvarado Street in downtown Monterey. The streets of historic downtown Monterey come alive, and are transformed into a festive setting featuring an array of displays, food and performances by musicians, dancers, singers, poets, and other entertaining artisans. Music styles offer a wide selection of classical, folk, jazz, salsa, reggae, rock and world music, with many featured groups performing at more than 22 indoor and outdoor venues. The Serra Ballroom in the conference center is a dedicated dance venue in the evening with the energized sounds of California Cowboys followed by the up and coming Fire in the Hamptons, an alternative Indie pop group, who will fire us into the New Year.

MONTEREY SYMPHONY 2012-2013 SEASON STARTS OCTOBER 19, 2012!

The Pianos are Coming…The Pianos are Coming…

October 4, 2012, Monterey, CA – No instrument in the history of the orchestra has had so much versatility as the piano. It is the instrument on which many composers write their works. It can sit in place of the orchestra, accompanying soloists, it can be a part of the ensemble itself lending its percussive color, or it can sit out front, on-stage for all to admire in the hands of a virtuosic soloists. Monterey Symphony celebrates this venerated instrument during its 67th Season, the Season of Piano with at least one piano concerto on each concert.

The concept for this unique season is born of two goals: the first is to highlight the Monterey Symphony’s Hamburg Steinway D piano, acquired in 2008 to replace the symphony’s aging New York Steinway D as the piano of choice for soloists.

Reggae Festival Competes for Crowds on Busy Weekend

MONTEREY, Calif.- The rhythmic accents of the off-beat guitar and piano will be competing with the sounds of motorcycles racing at 200 mph around Laguna Seca in Monterey Friday.

Even further up the road, people will be pouring into the Gilroy Garlic Festival, armed with empty stomachs ready to gobble up food that you can smell from miles away.

With such a jammed-packed weekend of events, public relations and media specialist Tanya Moore of Moore Media says the 17th Annual Monterey Bay Reggaefest, which brought in more than 12,500 fans last year, is expected to draw in more than 15,000 this weekend.
