It's an idea that hopes to fall in line with personal water bottles and reusable grocery bags: carrying around your own towel.
Monterey entrepreneur Linda Lannon is looking to eliminate the use of paper towels in public restrooms; she's developed the "People Towel", a small cloth she hopes people will carry around to dry their hands when away from home.
"It's one more small sustainable act with a big environmental impact," Lannon said.
Lannon said the idea came from Japan, where personal towels have been in use for decades. She's hoping it catches on America, leading people to make an eco-conscious lifestyle change, citing the average person uses up to 3,000 paper towels every year.
"You personally will save a quarter of a tree, reduce landfill by 23 pounds, and you'll conserve 250 gallons of water," Lannon said.
