MONTEREY, Calif.- "They're going to have a really happy outcome with a tough beginning," said SPCA executive director Gary Tiscornia.
"They are thriving right now, they're hydrated, they're active, and they're cute as the devil," said Tiscornia.
On Friday, the four female chihuahuas' future was more than uncertain, more bleak than anything, when someone abandoned the five week old puppies on the side of the road on Blanco Cirlce.
"When we got the puppies they were dehydrated and lethargic...too young to be away from their mother."
They were found by a dental hygentist in a tupperware container like this with a blanket and no top in a very populated area. As far as abandonments go, the SPCA says this wasn't the worst.
"If you're abandoning animals because you don't care about them you dump them in a field somewhere...Clearly the person wanted them to be found," said Tiscornia.
