Monterey's Dennis the Menace Train Gets To Stay

Monterey's Dennis the Menace Train Gets To Stay

MONTEREY, Calif. - The Dennis the Menace Steam Train at El Estero Park in Monterey will get to stay.

According to the "Save the Train at Dennis the Menace Park" group, the Monterey Parks and Recreation Department has approved the start of a three-part plan to make the train accessible to the public.

"Step one is to remove the chain link fence and install a decorative and functional permanent fence to allow visibility to the train during the construction & modification process. Steps 2 and 3 are design and construction, respectively," according to the group.

A fence was put up around the train in mid-2012 after several children were injured after falling from the locomotive.
