Pets Rescued From Suspected Hoarder's Home Available For Adoption

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. - Some of the pets that were rescued from the Monterey home of a suspected animal hoarder are now available for adoption.

Monterey Police say they, along with SPCA for Monterey County Humane Officers, rescued 22 cats, 24 dogs and 7 young puppies from the home of 59-year-old Ilagene "Jeanie" Quaglia.

The SPCA says its officers also located the remains of two cats and one small dog, and adds that the house was covered in three feet deep of garbage, urine, and feces.

Quaglia was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and was booked into the Monterey County Jail.

The SPCA is currently contacting people who have expressed interest in adopting one of the rescued pets. All adopters will need to agree to take the pet to the SPCA upon request if they need to be re-examined for any reason during the course of the animal cruelty investigation.

MONTEREY, Calif. - A woman has been arrested for animal cruelty after Monterey Police say dozens of animals were being hoarded inside her uninhabitable home.

Detectives say they started investigating when more than 48 dogs and cats were found at the First Street home of 59-year-old Ilagene "Jeanie" Quaglia on April 27. The animals were taken into protective custody and housed at the SPCA.

After completing their investigation, detectives requested an arrest warrant for Quaglia.

Monterey Cemetery Slapped with $15,000 Water Bill

Monterey Cemetery Slapped with $15,000 Water Bill

By Briana Bermensolo - email

MONTEREY, Calif. - A local cemetery says it can no longer afford water to care for its property after receiving a $15,000 water bill.

San Carlos Cemetery normally spends about $2,000 to water the grass across 13 acres for the month of April.

Manager Tim Bennett was shocked to get a call from California American Water company letting them know their water usage sky-rocketed last month.

According to CalAm, it is up to property owners to find a possible leak to explain all the extra water usage.

Bennett said he's had the water turned off for a week now, trying to find a problem, with no luck. Now the grass is turning brown.

CalAm said they usually refund 80% of the water bill if a leak is found.

While a truck-driver-turned-playwright watches his first play being produced in Boston, the backstage antics steal the show. This behind-the-scenes comedy features the grandly temperamental leading lady; her sarcastic, gin rummy playing mother; the flamboyant director; the lowbrow producer and his ice-skating, wisecracking wife. As opening night seems to go awry, everyone believes the show is a flop and turn against each other. When it turns out that the reviews are favorable, the tables are suddenly turned! A true madcap “laugh-a-minute” comedy, by the master - Moss Hart.
