Monterey Wharf Barking Ban to Be Repealed

By Chloe Beardsley - email

MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Monterey City Council voted on Tuesday night to repeal the wharf barking ban, which is essentially restaurant employees or owners making their pitch to potential customers to drum up business.

As any tourist or local knows, a walk on Fisherman's Wharf is like a clam chowder battle of the taste buds. Every seafood restaurant is usually pitching their best dishes and ocean view seating. The ban has been in effect since 1976, but it's hard to enforce. This move was just an approval of the first reading. When changing an ordinance it must go through two readings, said the city clerk.
